The primary role of the Technical Project Manager Safety is to work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of fire safety and life safety IT building projects, with a strong focus on fire detection systems.

As Technical Project Manager Safety, you will be part of the Safety & BMS team and report to your Team Lead. The Safety & BMS team delivers projects in areas such as fire detection, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, network infrastructure, structured cabling, IT housing and parking equipment, with project budgets exceeding 1M€.

You will take the technical lead in rolling out standardized fire detection and life safety solutions for NMBS/SNCB sites.

Key Responsibilities

Project Initiation & Planning (Study Phase)

•        Define high-level project scope, planning and budget

•        Ensure validation of technical solutions and estimation of effort and costs by experts and team members

•        Coordinate feasibility studies related to fire detection and safety systems

Studies & Technical Design

•        Formulate proposals for fire detection and safety solutions in line with the customer’s safety policy

•        Design detailed studies in accordance with applicable standards and customer risk analyses

•        Define functional specifications for new or existing fire detection and safety systems

•        Validate supplier quotations and technical compliance with standards and specifications

Project Start-up (Execution Phase)

•        Define detailed project scope, planning and budget

•        Organize and lead project kick-off meetings

•        Ensure alignment between all internal and external project stakeholders

Project Governance

•        Regular communication on project progress, scope, planning, resources and competencies

•        Monitor financial results and budget control

•        Identify, manage and escalate project risks and issues when necessary

•        Manage change requests through steering committees

•        Ensure coordination between internal and external teams

•        Support audit activities when required

Communication & Reporting

•        Keep the Business Project Manager informed of progress and achievements

•        Provide monthly Project Status Reports to B-IT and the customer

•        Ensure monthly follow-up of costs, effort and project progress

Project Closing

•        Represent the customer during project delivery

•        Record and document lessons learned

•        Ensure proper transfer to Operations and Service Desk

•        Guarantee that all documentation and training are delivered

Project Portfolio & Team Support

•        Ensure structured transfer of projects

•        Maintain overview of ongoing projects

•        Contribute to a positive and performant project team culture

•        Resolve conflicts when required

Framework Contracts & Suppliers

•        Write technical specifications for framework contracts

•        Evaluate quotations and select suppliers

•        Manage customer and supplier relationships

•        Act as first point of contact for suppliers

•        Monitor the market for new developments in fire safety & detection

Third-Line Support

•        Intervene in escalations of major incidents

•        Analyze complex technical problems

•        Initiate corrective actions

•        Ensure structural resolution of issues

Requirements

•        Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, Automation, ICT or equivalent through experience

•        Additional certification in fire safety, safety engineering or project management is a strong asset

•        Minimum 10  years of experience in technical project management within safety, fire detection or building technologies

•        Proven experience with large-scale infrastructure or public transport environments is a strong advantage

•        Experience with fire detection standards (EN 54, BOSEC, NBN) is highly recommended

•        Good knowledge of English ; Dutch and/or French

Technical Skills

•        Strong knowledge of fire detection systems, life safety systems and building safety infrastructure. Also BMS systems

•        Basic understanding of CCTV, access control and intrusion detection is an asset

•        Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

•        Good understanding of IT networks and system integrations

Project Management Skills

•        Strong planning, budgeting and risk management skills

•        Experience with governance, steering committees and stakeholder reporting

•        Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel
